Case Study: Kup Keys | How We Helped an Inventor Launch a Product Business

TL;DR: Todd spent 10 years inventing a tool that removes stuck cup wheels from concrete grinders. He had a name and a few AI-generated logos, but no business behind it. In about 8 weeks, we helped him launch a product business from scratch: his LLC, EIN, Google Workspace, full brand, product photography, a Shopify website written to rank, and an Amazon store. His first online order came in within days of launch, and he already has repeat customers.

The Situation

Todd has worked in the concrete industry for over 30 years. If you have ever run a concrete grinder, you know the problem. A cup wheel locks onto the machine and will not come off. The usual fix is a hammer and a chisel, which can ruin a $200 cup wheel and damage a $400 grinder. Then the whole crew stands around waiting while someone drives to buy a new one.

Todd's first fix was welding bolts onto a crowbar. Over the next ten years, he turned that rough idea into the Kup Key, an adjustable, patent pending tool that pops a stuck cup wheel off in seconds without damaging anything. It is made in the USA, and it is built to last.

When Todd messaged us on Facebook, he had the tool and he had the name. He also had a few AI-generated logos. That was it. No LLC, no website, and no way for anyone outside his circle to buy one.

What Todd Needed

Someone to Handle the Tech

Todd and his wife Suzanne know concrete inside and out. The technology side was a different story. Setting up a business online felt overwhelming, and they were worried about getting taken advantage of. They needed someone they could trust to take care of all of it.

A Brand That Matched the Tool

The Kup Key is tough, simple, and dependable. Todd wanted a brand that felt the same way: reliable, strong, durable, and easy to use. He wanted it to look like it belonged on a shop wall next to the big tool brands he trusts.

Something to Pass Down

Todd did not just want a store. He wanted to build something his kids could take over one day. He wanted a legacy. We loved that about him from the very first conversation.

How We Helped Todd Launch a Product Business

The Business Foundation

Before anything could be sold, Todd needed an actual business. We helped him form his LLC and get his EIN. We set up a full Google Workspace for him and connected his domains to it, so he had a professional business email from day one. We also set up his Google Business Profile so people can find him on Google.

The Brand

We designed his logo and built his entire brand from the ground up. His colors are high-vis safety yellow and safety red, matched to the powder coat on the tool itself. Clean fonts, bold contrast, and a light, bright look. If you want to see what goes into this part of the process, here is how we approach branding services in Queen Creek.

Photos and Video

We brought in photographer Dana Gibbons to shoot Todd's branding photos, product photos, and video. A product business lives and dies by its photos. People can't pick up a tool through a screen, so the pictures have to do the talking.

A Website Written to Rank

We built Todd's website on Shopify and wrote every word of the copy by hand. We did the SEO and AEO research so the site shows up when concrete pros search on Google or ask AI tools for help with a stuck cup wheel. We chose Shopify for one big reason: it works best for businesses that want to sell nationally and on Amazon. We break that choice down in our post on the best platforms for starting an e-commerce business in Queen Creek.

You can see the finished site at kupkeys.com.

An Amazon Store

We set up Todd's Amazon store and connected it to Shopify, so he and Suzanne can manage their orders in one place instead of logging into two different systems.

The Battles Along the Way

Launching a brand new business online is not always smooth, and this one had a few fights.

We battled Amazon to get the Kup Key approved to sell without a barcode, which is not easy for a brand new business. We have also been working through Google Business Profile verification, which can be a headache for any new business.

That is exactly the kind of thing we want to take off our clients' plates. We fight the tech battles so they can focus on what they do best.

The Results

  • About 8 weeks from our first meeting to a fully launched business

  • His first online order came in within days of launch

  • Orders are coming in from people who found him online, not just people he already knew

  • He already has repeat customers

  • The Kup Key is live on his own website and on Amazon

  • From day one, Kup Keys looks like an established, high end brand

Why This One Means So Much to Us

There was a lot of hard work behind this project, and a lot we overcame together. It was so rewarding to take something Todd carried in his head for ten years and turn it into a brand people remember.

We also don't believe in gouging people. Todd paid one upfront cost, and we took care of every technical piece so he could just start selling. He got a quality brand and a business that is set apart from the start, without paying big agency prices. We are so proud of him.
